The New Youtuber Tag Questions List (13/05/2017)

What is your name?
My name is Tabitha

Where are you from?
Australia.  I've moved over 25 times in my lifetime, so I've never felt like I could say I'm from any town in particular.

How tall are you?
Around 5"8

How many siblings do you have?
None to speak of.

Is this your first channel?
Yes.  My channel was named TabbyTaboo when I first started, but I changed it to TellyTabby Gaming Adventures (youtube.com/tellytabbygaming) in 2017

What is your channel about?  TellyTabby Gaming Adventures, (as the name suggests :p) is a gaming channel. I play games old and new, action/adventure, point and click, horror. You name it.

I've been thinking about reading spooky short stories for a while to mix it up a bit.  We'll see.

Why should anyone subscriber to your channel?  My sparkling personality haha. Just kidding. If you enjoy video games, bad jokes and random life insights then come along for the ride.

What inspired you to start making videos?
Well, when I first started the channel years ago, I'd been watching other people's gaming channels and felt like it seemed like a fun idea.  I was in a really shitty situation personally at the time and it served as a nice distraction.  I got a lot of nice feedback from people, so it added something positive to my life.

I find it interesting that I get comments about it being cool seeing a woman playing video games...  I grew up playing video games as did a lot of my friends, so it didn't seem so outlandish the idea of females playing video games.  Also when I started, there were plenty of other women with video games, like iJustine and Olga Kay...  So I don't know! It's weird to me that the idea of a female playing video games is still foreign to some people.

Who are some of your favorite YouTubers?
Jenna Marbles, Julien Solomita, Shane Dawson, Drew Monson, Graveyard Girl, At Home with Nikki, KrissyChula (I've probably spelled that incorrectly)... To name just a few.

What does your username mean?
When I was in high school, one of my friend's mothers was Chinese/Malayan and English wasn't her first language.  She had trouble with the "th" sound so she'd always call me Tellytabby, I guess because Teletubbies were big at the time haha.  Anyways I thought was cute... so that's the story there.

Best thing about YouTube?
Having a creative outlet, meeting new people... I met my fiancee through youtube :)

Worst thing about YouTube?
Currently, I'd have to say trying to build an audience and maintain interest.  People say it's because of all the stuff happening with advertising/monetization, youtube changing etc... but I feel like for channels that have been small for a while, it's always felt a bit this way?

Any advice for new YouTubers? Social media!  With the amount of content on youtube don't expect to create a channel and for people to find you organically right away (unless you're exceptionally lucky!!).  Getting your channel out there on twitter, facebook, tumblr really seems to help bring new people to your audience.

When I first started I didn't really use twitter.  I took a break from recording for personal reasons and when I came back a few years later, I decided to start a twitter account.  It's helped a lot!

Second thing I would say is consistency with uploading.  Upload at least once a week seems to be important for audience retention and also seems to help more people find your channel.  Due to issues with my health, I find it hard to record often, so when I'm having a "good day" healthwise, I record as much as I can and then edit when I'm up to it.  I use the schedule all my videos at least two to three weeks in advance usually so there are always videos being uploaded at certain times.  That just works for me and my situation, it's about finding what's right for you.

Also, from a personal perspective on who I like to subscribe to (and it would seem for other people as well) - just be yourself. Don't try to imitate certain popular youtubers because they're "popular" (it's really obvious and trolls will call you on it pretty quickly).  I think people who have personality and something different to offer are really interesting.  Stand out by being different I guess.  I'm not sure I am radically different, haha, but I just do me, I don't try to be anything I'm not.
